RESEARCH PROJECT

Instructor: Kelly Dobson
Course Number 7152
Credits 3
Open to Open to All Students

This class takes the form of a series of individual and group meetings to explore work related to student selected research projects. Each student may work on their own project or work with the instructor to facilitate a particular research venture as part of a team. Students will develop proposals for individual or a team based projects. They then work independently or in selected groups. This class also facilitates group meetings and class critiques.

We will explore research methodologies and various forms of research as material, social, and symbolic creative practice. We will draw from other disciplinary models of research such as social science and technology and collaborative research communities working on similar ideas through diverse material practices. Lectures and workshops around technical, political, and practical aspects of research will support individual and group student work. The course design will be flexible depending on the topic areas of interest to individual students. One of the small research groups already in planning to be supported by the course is Inner Space/Outer Space ? a transdisciplinary research practice group open to all and combining art, design, science, technology and culture to examine concepts and practices of external space and their relationship to theories of internal bodily and psychological space.
Elective; Open to senior, fifth-year, graduate
