Craft and the Digital – 2012
The negotiation between the self, object, projection, and space is explored through Installation Art. Students will be encouraged to investigate the craft medium of ceramics, the handmade, and that of digital mediums such as video and audio in the context of contemporary culture and art. The physical components will be introduced through the medium of ceramics. The class will also bring insight into various projection/installation methods for ceramics modules or objects. The course will look into various techniques and modes of working with video/ animation based on the physical installation created. The technical and the conceptual will be pushed in this course via in class demonstrations with materials (moldmaking, slipcasting, digital transfers), software (Photoshop & Final Cut Pro), and equipment (Video, Lighting, Audio), as well as discussions on artists and readings.
