Geon Dong Kim

Geon Dong Kim received both a BFA (in the Department of Advertising and Multimedia Design) and an MFA (in the Department of Visual Communication Design) from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea. He spent time in Korea working as a design team leader and creative director of an online gaming company, several web agencies, and several graphic design companies in Korea. Geon Dong has extensive design and graphics teaching experience as well - he's spent time teaching at Hongik University (as an adjunct professor), Anyang Technical College, Kyung-in Women's College, and Seoil College. In order to pursue his interest in the aesthetics of information design and its relationship to digital content, he moved to the U.S. to attend the Rhode Island School of Design's Digital+Media program, where he earned a second MFA with honors. While there, Geon Dong designed the department's digital promotional materials such as website and interactive KIOSK. His thesis project explored the use of physical devices to aid navigation of complex informational interfaces; "giving physical form to digital information". It culminated in an interactive exhibit entitled "History of Sundials", which was shown at SIGGRAPH 2007 and selected as a finalist in their Space-Time Competition & Exhibition. Also this work was featured in Wallpaper* magazine and Maeil Business newspaper. Geon Dong has received many other awards and honors, most recently the 'Next Generation Design Leader of Korea' award, Honorable Mention for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, as well as many other scholarships and recognitions.
