Bio Nipun worked with architects and retail interior design firms working on highly commercial projects to researching for a book on History of Interior Design. After travelling through tribal areas and interiors of India looking at arts, crafts and traditional skills in terracotta and pottery, wood carving, brass casting, wrought iron work, hut making, stone carving, cane and bamboo understanding the close relationship between the people who produce them and the spaces they live in. He realized the disconnect between his digital skills for production of space and their final manifestation in inanimate materials. So he moved to RISD in the US from India to bridge this gap between his digital skills/tool set and designing a space of a digital place. Artist Statement I have a keen interest in questions like how do technologies and knowledge of materials of any era moulds a particular culture, social behavior, society and living environments. Every time-period in the history of man has expressed their sense of aesthetic by their ability to use the tools that empowered them through Art, Architecture and Philosophy. These proofs are reflected through spaces they lived, worked and navigated in. So here we are in the digital age using digital tools and legitimizing digital as a material as a medium, but have we reached a point where we can say that we live in a digital culture. Do our spaces reflect digitalism? Please can we change what we mean by digital space, can it be non-flat, non-screen based terminology. Yes, when I say space I mean the Cartesian space, the physical space in which we exist, move and more importantly live in. May be it is too late to change the connotations associated with digital space, hence I should move on to dealing with creating a digital place out of our physical space celebrating existence of our body which can walk, bend and do other things than just looking at a screen.
