Lin Zhang

Autobiography Lin is a Chinese artist who uses a variety of media, including painting, photography and video. She graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), the most well known Art School in China, majoring in Painting & Media Arts. Her interactive and sensory environment focuses on the great changes experienced by Chinese women today; private space is opened to the public. Her Digital Media Installation work named, won the Award of the Best Creative Art Works, 2007 Graduation Art Exhibition, CAFA School of Design. Started painting when she was Four, winning her first award when she was 8. This was followed by many others, including the Prize of Gold, 1st International Children Painting Competition, London UK, sponsored by Bloomsbury College, on 1993 when she was Eleven. Since twelve, she has been an apprentice of Professor Di’an Fan, former Vice President of CAFA, and now the President of China National Gallery. Since 2008, She has been taking advantage of the interdisciplinary environment of RISD Digital Media department (Rhode Island School of Design), creating new works within the context of interactivity contemporary everyday existence.  Her research focus at this time is in the use of new computer technologies in public space via video, sound and light in a performative way to explore the relations about human actions with sound, light, video and images. Lin creates multidisciplinary artworks that integrate painting, video installation, sculpture, music, and performance. Influenced by her experiences living throughout China, Canada and United States.
