Gokce Kinayoglu

Gokce Kinayoglu is an architect and educator who specializes in the theory and applications of digital media as they pertain to environmental phenomenology, perception and interaction. He received his Ph.D. in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 2009, from the Design Theories and Methods Program, along with a Designated Emphasis in New Media. He holds M.Arch and B.Arch degrees from METU in Ankara, Turkey. His dissertation, which investigates the potentials of new media for environmental perception and mobile-embodied interaction beyond the visual, is titled "The Role of Sound in the Making of A Sense of Place in Real, Virtual and Augmented Environments." During his doctoral studies, he contributed to numerous research projects focusing on the design and application of multi-user virtual environments for cultural heritage preservation and representation, at the Digital Design Research Group and Center for New Media at UC Berkeley. At RISD he teaches at Interior Architecture and Digital+Media.
